Author and longtime farmer Rebecca Thistlewaite is organizing a four-workshop series in April, aimed at helping small farmers turn the corner to profitability. It’s aimed at early-stage growers, people who have been at it from one to six years but have so far fallen shy of their goals. Class size is limited to 10. Participants get a copy of her new book, “Farms With a Future: Creating & Growing a Sustainable Farm Business,” plus up to four hours of one-on-one consulting. Hood River resident and film-maker Stacy Shaw is using the Indiegogo crowd-funding site to generate support for her documentary film, “Baby Boy Church.” The film, which screened in the fall of 2012 to appreciative audiences at the first Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival, tells of Ron Morgan’s surprising discovery in mid-life that he was adopted. Shaw is hoping to raise $5,000 to fund further film festival entries in her campaign to raise awareness of “late discovery adoptees.” …
