Proprietor of new Whiskey Tango shoots for early February launch

A new vision deserves a new name, hence the moniker chosen by Vince Culp for the dining and sipping space formerly known as the RiverTap at 112 Oak St.

Whiskey Tango.

The Buzz reported last summer about Culp’s purchase of the Sproat Building downtown, and plans to remodel the ground floor space for casual dining and craft cocktails, outfit a separate space for assorted bar games, and convert the long-empty upper-floor space for events.

Culp says the goal for the business is to “create a fun atmosphere but still be able to hear people talk.”

Hence, live music more in the acoustic vein, and when a deejay takes over the dance floor, it will be low key. He says a new sound barrier and changes to the sound system are designed to prevent disturbance of guests sleeping just beyond the wall in rooms of the Hood River Hotel.

Culp originally hoped to open in late fall of 2016. Today, he’s hoping to have everything ready to open in early February.

He says he’s still looking to hire a couple more cooks and a bartender or two. Shoot him a note if you’re interested.
