A big part of what makes Hood River special is the vital business scene. Frustrated with the lack of local media attention to business news, I thought that a blog would be a good first step to share what I learn in my various work and volunteer activities. I worked for 24 years as a reporter and editor with Northwest newspapers and magazines — The Oregonian, Anchorage Daily News, Medford Mail Tribune and Oregon Business magazine — and also spent three years during the mid-1990s on a couple of digital news startups — What On Earth by Ingenius, and Trip.com. At the end of the day (sorry, I know it’s a way overused phrase these days), life is all about business. Even if you work for someone else, you’re “in” business. You trade your time for pay, and the level of your energy, creativity and commitment contribute to the success (or failure) of the business. Please, make this your site, too. Call me at 541-386-8860, or write to me to share your news, or a tip about something you’d like me to explore. Now, get biz-e!

Love the Hood River Biz Buzz. It’s fresh, it’s interesting, it’s relevant. Thanks! Keep it going…

  2. Just found your blog. Great idea. And you’re right… life is all about business. Can you give a plug for the History Museum for the repainting of the Franz Mural at Oak & 2nd that is currently taking place. Some of us will be on the corner on First Friday 8/7 fundraising for donations to pay for the painting.
